Although the watch itself bears the label “Swiss made,” its breathtaking Florentine hunter case cover might captivate the fortunate owner’s attention to the extent that the Swiss-signed dial becomes a secondary marvel.
In 2002, the inaugural Panerai “Sealand for Purdey” series debuted, introducing a collection of four Luminor models characterized by meticulously hand-engraved and gold leaf-inlaid “half hunter” dial covers. These exceedingly scarce timepieces laid the foundation for the ongoing Sealand series, known for its iconic engraved depictions of flora and fauna, hinged hunter dial covers, understated brushed steel casings, captivating silver and black dials, and even a concealed mirror beneath the hinged case cover. Naturally, the ultimate hallmark was its unparalleled exclusivity, with most Sealand editions released in micro-runs of 25 to 50 units.
The Panerai Luminor Sealand Florida, a 2012 boutique-exclusive series comprising just 50 pieces, was specifically crafted for the Panerai boutique in Boca Raton, Florida. Each exemplar showcases a masterful representation of the elusive Florida Panther, a species with a population of approximately 200 individuals. The interplay of contrasting black, gold, and textured steel surfaces adeptly captures the magnificence and strength of this 150-pound subtropical feline. Through a combination of varied finishing techniques including rustication, brushing, etching, and polishing, both the animal and its environment are vividly brought to life. Such meticulous artistry results in an image that seemingly leaps off the convex curvature of the hunter lid, creating a stunning three-dimensional effect.
Beneath this captivating surface, a silver Panerai Luminor Marina dial continues the departure from the usual Firenze offerings. This interpretation stands out dramatically from the standard Panerai catalog, featuring a harmonious blend of grayscale tones and elements, exemplified by the silver dial with black hour indices.
